BORN AGAIN
The places you’ll go and the things that you’ll do,
Because you’ve escaped from that miserable pew
It’s Sunday and you can sleep in until noon
You don’t need to leave your warm blanket cocoon!
Your underwear choices are limitless now,
(Though all of these options are harder somehow)
This morning, your coffee is steaming and hot!
The smell is amazing! (The taste, though, is not.)
Maybe you’ll even attempt drinking beer,
If you can get over your alcohol fear
Each morning instead of a-kneeling to pray
You talk with your partner about the new day
Instead of your scriptures, you read a new book
You’ve put in a nose ring, you choose how to look
Never again will you use up your evenings
Attending the temple to find deeper meanings
Instead, go for dinner or go for a hike
(Not every ex-Mormon’s exactly alike)
All of that time spent preparing for church?
Is now gladly spent on a history search
And how ‘bout that excellent ten percent raise?
That unscheduled money is something to praise
Now that you’re out, you might find your true self
Choose love and not shame, after breaking your shelf
Sure, you might wish you could get back some years,
And maybe your leaving has caused countless tears
But would you return to your ignorant state?
Belong to a church full of judgment and hate?
It’s better out here, where the agency’s real;
Where no one commands how you think or you feel.
